Waitrose and John Lewis at home Ipswich opened their doors to customers today for the first time. The shops, which have created 375 new jobs in the local area, are the first Waitrose supermarket and John Lewis at home shop to open next to each other and will enable shoppers to benefit from convenient access to product ranges in both shops.

The two shops represent a twelve million pound investment by the John Lewis Partnership, and share an entrance and a customer cafe.  John Lewis at home Ipswich focuses on furniture, furnishing accessories, homeware, home and electrical technology, nursery and travel goods. It also includes a selection of skincare. Waitrose Ipswich has a bakery, meat, fish, cheese and deli counters and ranges such as essential Waitrose, Heston from Waitrose and Duchy Originals from Waitrose. It also offers local and regionally sourced produce. 

Maggie Porteous, Head of Selling Operations at John Lewis said: “This is the first John Lewis at home shop to open in Suffolk, an area that has been long sought after by the business and our first co-located shop with Waitrose. We are delighted to be welcoming customers through the doors and look forward to helping shoppers discover the John Lewis assortment.”

Nigel Keen, Property & Development Director at Waitrose said: “Having established a presence in the town centre with our little Waitrose store in the Corn Exchange earlier this year, we are thrilled to be opening our first full sized Waitrose in Ipswich. In what is a challenging economic climate, it is great to see the investment that is being made in the town and we are looking forward to seeing the reaction of shoppers to our stores being alongside each other in this way for the first time.”

John Lewis at home Ipswich features 43,000 sq ft of selling space over two floors. Computer terminals in the branch allow shoppers to browse the wider John Lewis assortment including fashion, beauty, carpets and order for home delivery or next day collection at the shop.

Waitrose Ipswich features 27,000 sq ft of selling space. The new branch offers convenient shopping from home via and customers can also shop in-store themselves with the store delivering the items to their door.
