New solution for local authority customers
Northgate Public Services and The Logic Group are collaborating on an innovative solution that will help their UK local government customers put in place safeguards to protect millions of individuals making debit or credit card transactions.
New guidance within the Payment Card Industry Data Security Standard (PCI DSS), a set of policies intended to protect cardholders against misuse of their personal information, requires all organisations that process payments to comply with new data protection guidance by the end of 2013.
Recent reports have suggested that many organisations are struggling to become PCI DSS compliant with every detail of the standard – putting many at risk of personal data security breaches and fines for non-compliance.
The innovation sees Northgate PARIS, the company’s local government card payments and income management solution, and The Logic Group’s trusted card payments managed service solution working together to provide local authorities with a low cost, low risk way of using a multi-channel payment infrastructure. This includes face-to-face, online, telephone unattended and contact centre solution to optimise the security of credit, debit and cash card transactions. The new solution offers bank grade security when processing transactions, ensuring that people’s payment credentials will be securely encrypted and protected when they pay their council tax bills, rental payments, parking permits and any fines.
Northgate PARIS has also been confirmed as PA DSS (Payment Application Data Security Standard) certified by the PCI council. This is a huge step forward for our customers in achieving their PCI compliance. Rochdale Metropolitan Borough Council is the one of the first customers to upgrade their payment infrastructure.
Keith Mackenzie, Head of Revenues and Benefits at Rochdale Metropolitan Borough Council said:“Upgrading our payment infrastructure is Rochdale Council’s commitment to the local community and businesses. This managed service will increase data security standards and offer higher service availability and greater flexibility to our customers.”
Ian Blackhurst, Executive Director for Solutions, Northgate Public Services: “Northgate are committed to helping our PARIS customers to move forward. By working with our customers, such as Rochdale MBC, to deliver an innovative solution that moves them towards to PCI DSS compliance in collaboration with The Logic Group, we can ensure local authorities continue to improve the quality of their services to their communities.”
Nick Stacey – Director of Business & Market Operations at The Logic Group:“The Logic Group is delighted to be working with Northgate to deliver on a shared vision of securing citizens payment credentials whenever they interact with Local Government. Progressive PCI DSS compliance will help local Councils prevent security breaches – by securely handling customer payment card data.”
Recent figures from the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO) reported that there were 730 cases of data breaches reported in 20111, with 166 reported with councils and other local government organisations.
