Adyen, the global provider of international and omni-channel payment solutions processed more than $14 billion in payments transactions in 2013 – a 40% increase over 2012 – and achieved record growth in terms of revenue, mobile payments and new customer wins. Adyen holds full acquiring licenses for Visa, MasterCard, American Express, Diners, Discover and Union Pay schemes, enabling its platform to process payments from any sales channel including online, mobile and point-of-sale (POS).

 

Adyen’s substantial growth was driven by a 40% increase in new customers worldwide and significant organic growth of existing customers. Adyen’s customer activity helped generate an impressive 43% increase in revenue over last year, continuing a trend of double-digit revenue growth since 2007. The company now serves more than 3,500 medium- to enterprise-size merchants worldwide. New customers that signed with Adyen in 2013 include Indiegogo, Lebara, Wix, Zoosk, Graze, Farfetch, Vilebrequin, Wunderlist, Liftopia, i-Parcel and ZooPlus.  Adyen also signed 12 new airlines in 2013 including Transavia, Monarch Airlines, EL AL, Avianca Brazil and Cityjet, increasing its airline customer portfolio to 20. Existing customers that expanded their relationship with Adyen include SoundCloud, NakedWines, Vodafone, TheNextWeb, Photobox and TomTom.

Adyen North America, one of the company’s fastest-growing regions, experienced a 1,800% increase in global payments transaction value processed for its customers. It also achieved nearly 153% growth in new customers – more than double the new customer growth in 2012 – and significant organic growth from existing customers.

Other 2013 company milestones, new offerings and growth indicators include:

 

  • Mobile transactions grew to 19.5% of total payments processed, up from 10.5% at the end of 2012 – an 85% increase.

  • Hired 67 employees, including former VISA executive Paul Cook as Managing Director of Global Acquiring, based at Adyen HQ in Amsterdam, and former Netflix/PayPal executive Kamran Zaki as President – Adyen North America.

  • Opened a new office in Berlin, and relocated its North American headquarters from Boston to San Francisco.

  • Added new local payment methods including: Western Union, SEPA Direct Debits, and Boku (global), Trustly (Scandinavia), Multibanco (Portugal), and Boleto Bancario (Brazil), bringing the total number of payment methods supported to 251 – more than any other payments provider.

  • Enhanced its global acquiring network with local acquiring partners in France, Spain, Brazil and the US.

  • Launched several new technologies, including: Automated Pay Out solution – which facilitates electronic payouts for gaming and gambling, travel and peer-to-peer companies; Easy Encryption API – which encrypts payment data for greater security; and expanded support for Magento’s e-commerce platform in Brazil.

  • Increased the availability of its Shuttle mobile Point of Sale (mPOS) device to 19 countries throughout Europe and in the U.S., giving it the largest geographical distribution of any mPOS device in the world. Adyen also began selling the Shuttle in select Vodafone stores in The Netherlands.
