One in five office workers have put on at least a stone in weight in the past year, and most believe spending all day at their desk is affecting their health, a new study has shown. A survey of 2,000 workers revealed that three out of four only leave their desk to go to the toilet or make a cup of tea.

A third do an hour or less of exercise every week even though most would like to spend more time keeping fit, according to the research by audio communications firm Plantronics. Most office workers said they were worried about putting on weight, with two out of five complaining of constant back or neck ache.

Paul Clark of Plantronics said: “The line between work and play has blurred in recent years thanks to the rise of flexible, mobile and remote working. “However, as our stats show, office workers feel increasingly tied to their desks. A healthy workforce is a happy workforce.”
