Spotlight on Jo Carlin, UK Group HR Director at B. Braun Group
With this year’s Digital Workplace Conference just a couple of weeks away, we’ve sat down with some of our world class industry speakers for a “Speaker in the Spotlight” interview to hear more about their role, responsibilities and what they are most looking forward to about the event. Today we are joined by Jo Carlin, UK Group HR Director at B. Braun Group…
Can you provide us with an insight into a ‘day in the life’ of your role?
If there is such a thing as a usual day in HR mine consists of a combination of strategic project work, team activity and meetings either with teams or individuals. The whole aim is always to maintain the movement towards the overall goals – dealing with a few curve balls along the way of course!
How has Covid affected your workplace strategies?
Covid has perhaps slowed down or interfered with some workplace strategies, and in other areas it has allowed the opportunity to speed up. We like all other teams have found we have needed to work in different ways to get the same results, and that change has affected some strategies more than others.
What do you think the future will look like for the workplace?
I’m not sure we will see the ‘workplace’ as we have done traditionally, with teams having the ability to connect irrespective of where they are based and what type of work they do. This will be fuelled by the ever-changing landscape of digitisation. However, the opportunity to connect in person will still be valid, with more defined collaboration activity needed to create the space for spontaneity outside of the Zoom style meeting.
Do you feel that there will be any strategies that you adapted with in the pandemic that are here to stay?
Yes definitely! There is much more opportunity to connect my team who are not located in the same place now and more than that we have figured out how to make this style of interaction work for us. Generally for the wider business recruitment has become faster – its much easier to ask someone to block an hour out of their day versus adding this to travel time, meaning we can meet more people quicker. This coupled with a much wider pool of candidates has led to better processes when recruiting.
We are very excited about watching your presentation! Any chance we can get a sneak peek about what you will be specifically discussing?
It will be a mix of my experiences to-date in the space of digitisation, employee engagement and inclusive cultures!
What are you most looking forward to about the event?
Seeing all the other presenters and hearing about the amazing work being carried out in other businesses. I always learn so much from the events, it’s a great opportunity to expand my knowledge and meet inspirational people!
Jo will be joining host Jo Moffatt for an exclusive fireside chat at the Digital Workplace Conference on Thursday 10th March at 2pm in Hall 1 – you can register your FREE ticket to the event and catch Jo’s session live here.
