Leading the Skills Intelligence team at National Skills Academy for Rail, I am responsible for Workforce Analytics where we support the industry with Strategic Workforce Planning amongst other things. Forecasting the future skills demand and supply, roles and workforce requirements for the rail industry is key in the current climate as changing trends and the impact of technological developments mean different skill sets are required. This is key component when helping organisations improve productivity.

Within the role, I lead the development and am responsible for the maintenance of the Skills Intelligence Model (SIM). This is an analytical model to enable analysis of today’s workforce, whilst forecasting the future skill level requirements for the industry. As the model has continued to develop, a wider industry picture is being formed with forecasting being finely tuned to job role level, subsequently allowing specific gaps to be identified. This information creates a Strategic Workforce Plan, with the outputs being transformed into training plans whether that be for upskilling or reskilling. The detail provided also indicates where the use of Apprenticeships would enable organisations to futureproof their workforce, as part of wider training and recruitment plans,

Analytical interpretation and curiosity are my strengths, developed through my career and latterly, finely tuned in a variety of senior posts in secondary Education. Conversion of key source data into meaningful and digestible information is a core skill which I possess. This is particularly important as analytical insights support business decision-making to drive productivity.
