Gillian leads on Equality, Diversity and Inclusion for HM Revenue and Customs, having spent most of her career in the Civil Service in a wide variety of roles. Although she has been accountable for diversity and inclusion in different Government Departments, what really shapes her thinking about what works in creating diverse and inclusive cultures in big organisations is the fact that Gillian has:
• Led and managed diverse groups of people, including in large non-HR professional groups
• Mentored, coached and sponsored people from all backgrounds and with a range of experiences different from her own
• Lived experience and a strong connection with work on social justice both in and outside the Civil Service.
Gillian is proud of the work she has done in the last 2 years to re-energise equality, diversity and inclusion in HMRC, and especially of the work she is doing on race equality and challenging racism in the workplace.
