Naomi Sayers, Senior Colleague Experience manager at Sainsbury’s Tech is responsible for improving experience for 2000 employees in the tech division. Sainsbury’s Tech is the only Sainsbury’s division to have a dedicated employee experience department as there is a high need to attract and retain the best tech talent amongst many competitors.

The pandemic put a lot of strain on the Sainsbury’s tech team as, in less than one month, they increased online delivery timeslots by 50% and introduced priority shopping for the vulnerable and NHS staff. Naomi goes on to explain that as a result, employee experience was as important as ever for Sainsbury’s Tech and because of the measures implemented, 90% of Sainsbury’s tech colleagues said they love working there.

Naomi refers to delivering great colleague experience as her ‘product’ and how applying ‘agile’ methodology is crucial to delivering these results. Naomi explains that agile is a way of working where cross functional teams work together to create a single digital product. ‘Agile’ ways of working allow employees to build longer lived relationships, develop their technical specialism, and have their voice heard.
