Last weekend, the Prime Minister issued a plea for UK employees to return to work if they can, in line with the further easing of lockdown restrictions.

However, research from the world’s largest first-party data and insights platform, Dynata, reveals that employees are unsure who to trust when it comes to return to work advice, suggesting that it might be a while before we see employees returning to the workplace in their masses.

Dynata surveyed over 7,000 people globally (including 1,000 respondents in the UK), in the week of 6th July, asking them how much they trust a number of sources when it comes to whether or not it’s safe to return to work. The main findings from the survey reveal that:

  • When it comes to government advice about returning to work, 20% of UK respondents don’t trust it at all, compared to the global average of 11%;
  • Nearly one in ten (9%) Brits don’t trust their employer to make a decision about when it’s safe to return to work. This is still lower than the global average of 11%;
  • Only 5% of Brits trust their employers’ judgement totally, 14% trust it a lot;
  • Healthcare professionals are the most trusted source for information about returning to work globally and in the UK: 22% of global respondents and 14% of UK respondents trust them totally;
  • In the UK, government workers are least trusted overall, no matter their position; 11% of government healthcare officials are completely untrusted, 17% of local politicians, and 20% of national politicians.
