As lockdown restrictions continue to ease and employees start returning to their workplaces the best and worst of home working revealed
With the coronavirus pandemic causing a huge spike in remote working new research in this week’s newsletter suggests that half of UK workers have admitted that their mental health has suffered since the lockdown.
The Covid-19 Mental Health research from Qualtrics also shows what those working from home consider the best and worst aspects of their new working environments. UK workers have identified the top five most challenging parts of working from home as: feelings of social isolation; finding it harder to focus; feeling less motivated; encountering too many distractions and feeling less productive.
On the flip side the top five benefits of working from home have also been identified as: saving time on commuting; saving money on commuting; being able to wear comfortable clothes; having a more flexible schedule and feeling more productive.
Commenting on the research, Sally Winston, Head of EX Solutions Strategy EMEA Qualtrics said: “With UK workers unexpectedly finding themselves setting up offices in their lounges and spare rooms, many are coming to terms with a new normal. While many are struggling with feelings of isolation and a lack of motivation, others are finding silver linings in the time and cost savings seen from no commute. With workers now facing even more time working from home, it’s vital that businesses address these concerns as well as highlighting potential benefits in order to alleviate current pressures causing mental health issues and emphasise potential positives that might be being overlooked. By analysing how workers are feeling and acclimatising to this new situation, businesses can adapt how they are communicating and keep their staff on track.”
